After I finished seaming up the stripey grey cardigan (yay!), it was time to sew on some buttons. I used one of the plys of All Seasons Cotton, the same yarn as the rest of the sweater, as the sewing thread. I did this after reading that regular sewing thread can actually cut through the yarn of the garment. I decided I'd rather not let that happen.
Look what I used to create the extra space between the button and the sweater fabric:
